Wonderful Peru
8 Days / 7 Nights
Arrival in Lima
Upon arrival at the airport, a host will greet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel and check-in.
Lima is a vibrant city where the past meets the present. Colonial palaces, monasteries and convents exist in remarkable harmony with modern buildings and impressive, ancient pre-Inca huacas. Discover them in the entrance hall of an old mansion or deep within a shadowy catacomb.
Lima, the City of Kings, awaits to amaze you with its magic and captivate you with its flavors.
Lima – Colonial and Modern Lima City Tour (B)
The Colonial Lima tour takes you on a dazzling walk around the Plaza de Armas. Framed by its beautiful Cathedral and the Archbishop's, Government and Municipal palaces, it will transport you to the past as soon as you step onto its cobblestones.
Next, visit a masterpiece of colonial architecture: the Convent of San Francisco and its famous catacombs.
Continue through modern Lima and the attractive districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, where you can photograph spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the cliffs of the Costa Verde.
Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley (B)
After a short, spectacular flight over the majestic Andes and their imposing snow-capped peaks, arrive in Cusco, the legendary capital of the Inca Empire, once the center of one of the world's most important civilizations and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cusco, both Spanish and Inca, sacred and divine, welcomes you. Upon arrival, a host will greet you and arrange your transfer directly to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.
Spend the rest of the day resting, adjusting to the altitude and enjoying your hotel's facilities. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
Pisac Market and Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site (B, L)
Travel through the fertile fields of the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the picturesque colonial town of Pisac, where the colorful local market is a major attraction. Artisans from nearby villages bring alpaca textiles and handcrafted goods. At the market, you will have the opportunity to bargain with local vendors for the products they offer.
Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site: The Incas built this fortress with a temple, terraces and an urban sector. It has two distinct areas: a religious and ceremonial zone and a residential zone. Its walls and towers also reflect its role as an important administrative and military center. Ollantaytambo is known as the 'Living Inca Town' because its residents preserve practices and customs dating back to Inca times.
Lunch is included. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
Moray and the Maras Salt Mines / Afternoon transfer to the train station (B, D)
Visit picturesque Andean communities on the way to Moray, an Inca agricultural experimentation center famous for its sunken amphitheater. Four circular terraces appear to descend into the earth like an artificial crater. The site is believed to have been an agricultural research station, with fertile soil and an elaborate irrigation system used to test crops at different elevations.
Maras: brilliant white salt pools fed by an underground stream and left in the sun to evaporate. The remarkable Maras Salt Mines are a unique sight to start the morning.
In the afternoon, transfer to the train station for the journey to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. The rest of the evening is free to explore the town, relax or enjoy the hotel facilities. Dinner and overnight in Aguas Calientes.
Machu Picchu – Cusco (B)
In the morning, we will begin our excursion to the citadel of Machu Picchu. This impressive, monumental citadel is one of Cusco's most important tourist attractions.
Hidden by the mountains and tropical forest for 400 years, the citadel was brought to international attention in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham.
Machu Picchu, both a center of worship and astronomical observation and the private retreat of the Inca Pachacutec, comprises two main areas: an agricultural sector and an urban sector featuring temples, plazas and royal mausoleums built with exquisite precision.
Return to Cusco in the afternoon.
